Leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate or narrowly oblong, 2-5" long, per Wildflowers of Tennessee, the Ohio Valley, and the Southern Appalachians (Horn, Cathcart, Hemmerly, & Duhl, 2005).

Leaves paired, mostly lance-shaped. Stems usually spotted with red dots, per Wildflowers of Tennessee (Carman, 2005).
